Sakahagi the foul. by strikes-twice Sakahagi the foul. by strikes-twice
SURPRISE! Not the next costume most people expected from me, not the next costume I expected from MYSELF but here it is and I'm pretty pleased with it.

This was my first major experiment with SFX makeup and I had a lot of fun/frustration pulling this together the month before C&E. Sakahagi was one of those characters I saw years ago playing through SMT:Nocturne and fell in love with (along with Futomimi) and had kept in the back of my mind as a halloween project forever.

The reactions I got to this costume were mostly: glances of severe discomfort, nervousness and general gaping and staring. I was pretty happy with that :D

All the masks were made by hand, the fabric was striped by hand and everything you see here was done by me with some last-minute assistance from the lovely :iconmikonoda: who was up at 12am with me helping me stitch the faces together and other serial killer-esque activities, because that's what friends are for.

Thanks so much, this costume was annoying as hell to make but scaring the sh*t out of people while wearing it and paying homage to such an awesome game was worth it.

Reading the reactions I had to favorite, I imagine if I saw this in real life knowing where it came from would only make the feelings worse.

Nocturne is awesome!

I cast the faces out of latex. I brushed several layers onto an altered mask base with powder between each layer to create additional thickness, and then peeled them away and painted them roughly with alcohol activated makeup :)

Sorry, I wasn't able to find any mask that would work for the job so I had to make them on my own! It took a lot of time, but once you get the hang of it is very easy to do!

Another Sakahagi would be awesome, can't see what you're going to do with it!

You're welcome, feel free to note me with any more questions if you have them :)

Good luck! Just give yourself lots of time to do the masks, they can be fussy and its better to start off slow at first. Using a hair dryer can really increase drying time too!

Thank you again strikes-twice ^^
I haven't started on Sakahagi just yet but when I do I'm sure I will have a few Questions ^^. I never worked with latex before but I think it will be fun..what did you use for the face cast? I have one of those beauty school heads..would that work? lol^^ sorry if that Question sounded dumb ^^ I just dont know.~

I used a plastic mask I bought from a party store that I cut into the right shape (I had to change the edges, face shape and mouth) and brushed it with multiple layers of latex. Make sure to dust whatever you are using for your mould with translucent powder for a nice release :)

I wouldn't suggest a beauty school head, as you can't brush inside of it only the outer surface which will create a rough texture.

Thanks! This is a costume I've wanted to do for ages and it makes me super happy to meet other fans of a pretty obscure character from a pretty obscure game :D

My next goal is to make my girlfriend a Futomimi costume!

I have never heard of this character -- should I be ashamed of myself? Really fantastic costume though, you look like your clothes are soaking and dripping with fresh blood. I've never quite seen anyone make it look that real.

Not too ashamed! The character is from a game called Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne, and he's only one of many bosses and summonable demons you can fight with throughout the game. I really liked him though, and his fashion statement of wearing the faces of his victims always stuck with me :)

Thank you! It was my first time experimenting with a bunch of different products for blood, and I ended up applying it in three different sittings to try and recreate the look of clothing that had been stained and covered in gore over time but also freshly bloody too :D

Thanks! It wraps around all the way across the back too, I think I made around... 17 faces in total? I probably should have gone with 20, but near the end I was really sick of baby powder and latex :(
